custody

My neice and nephew have been adopted by their maternal grandparents.  Their father gave up his parental rights after he was convicted of murdering their mother.  He may be parolled and is threatening to take the children back, saying he has a lawyer working on it already.  Should we be concerned?  Is there a way for him to succeed and get his kids back?

Re: custody

Once a custody order has been entered, the court retains authority until the child reaches the age of 18. During this period of time the court can review and change the custody order if the parents agree and the court revises the order, or if a motion is filed and the court believes there is clear and convincing evidence that a change is in the best interests of the child.
