Re: Laws Particular to Filing Bankruptcy
What is the statute of limitations regarding a debtor pursuing me after 7 years... They sold the debt to a collection agency. Can I eliminate this debt? and Challenge it. It's an OLD debt. acquired prior to Sept. 11th. I had a credit $6,000 debt w/ Citibank Visa. I opted to put all OTHER debts on a debt management schedule which I fulfilled. I left out the Citibank debt. Now after 7 years I am being harrassed by Assset Acceptance Corp. in MD. which apparently bought the debt from Citibank. After all these years I am being pursued for a settlement. Do they have a right to pursue the collection of this debt after 7 years? Can you help? Do I need a lawyer? I am a single homeowner uneligible to borrow against my house and unwilling to borrow since my mortgage is only $30,000. I am over 55 years old. Linda Mesch
