Yesterday on my way to work I was heading North on a two lane highway while a school bus was heading South. At the curve ahead I noticed a bus was slowing down so I figured it was turning, thus I also slowed down. When I saw that the bus was waiting I continued on. As I rounded bend/curve I saw that the bus driver was pulling out her stop sign. As quickly as I could (mind you I was going around 45mph) I slowed down and came to a stop beside the bus. The child who was to cross had not yet entered the road much less had entered my view. When I came to a full stop, I noticed that the driver had blown their horn to get my attention. The horn had no effect on my stop because I had noticed the sign before I heard the horn. I waited for the child to cross the road and for the bus to continue on its route before I went on my way. Not soon after a cop pulled me over. It turns out that the cop had pulled me over because someone had said that I was trying to avoid a road check at least a half a mile down the road and had completely turned my car around and went the opposite direction. I assured the policeman that the accusations were false because where I turned onto the highway was after the road checks took place. He made his necessary checks and let me continue on my way.
Today at my house a cop showed up to issue me a ticket which the bus driver requested. If the cop let me go yesterday after he saw the incident, is it still possible for me to be issued the ticket at court? I looked up the law which allows this but has no mention of a policeman being involved. I live in Seneca County of New York State. Do I have an arguement here?
