step parent adoption in South Carolina
Modified By bitwiz on 12/19/2007 7:29:51 PM)

Hello.  I'm hoping someone can help me.

I actually live in Indiana, but my exhusband and his new wife live in South Carolina.  Exhusband has custody of minor child.  New wife is attempting to adopt my son in Sc.  Only problem with this.. the judge over the case in Indiana has issued a jurisdictional order stating that Indiana will retain jurisdiction.  NOW, I was served with a notice of hearing paper, which when I called sc courthouse, was informed that this was a termination of parental rights hearing to determine if there was just cause to terminate my parental rights.

I filed my answer to complaint with the courts and their attorney along with a copy of the jurisdictional order where Indiana retains jurisdiction over this case.  My questions are this:

1.) How long does a step parent adoption in SC take?

2.) Can this adoption happen when another state retains jurisdiction over the same case?

3.) What will happen as far as the adoption WHEN I DON'T SIGN THE CONSENT?

I will NEVER consent to an adoption from this woman.  I maintain a weekly court ordered phone call to my son, I sent gifts, I've in no way abandoned my son.  I'm concerned for the welfare and safety of my son and need answers asap.  I am representing myself in both cases.
