Renter's rights

We moved into our townhome at the first of May in this year.  Our landlord served us with a letter stating that we had thirty days to move out of our home stating "Notice to you and all others in possession of the below premises, that the owners of the premises you hold intends to terminate you tenancy pursuant to  55-248.16(9) of th code of Virginia, 1950, as amendd and you are hereby notified to vacate, quit and deliver up the premises you hold as ou tenant:...Yo are to deliver said premises on or within November 12, 2007.  Nothing within this Notice shall prevent the owner from reserving it's right to terminate this tenancy pursuant to Virginia law.

In reading the law, I do not see where we are in violation, and wonder if he can do this and what rights we have to argue it.

Thank you for your help,

Beth
